Aztex Answers

Answers to questions you may have about the Austin Aztex.

Q. Who will the Aztex play in 2012?
A. The Aztex will play in the Mid-South Division of the USL PDL’s Southern Conference. The division hasn’t been finalized yet for 2012, but in 2011 it was made up of:

  • Laredo Heat
  • Chivas El Paso Patriots
  • Baton Rouge Capitals
  • New Orleans Jesters
  • West Texas United Sockers
  • Rio Grande Valley Grandes

Laredo in particular fields a consistently tough team. They advanced to the national PDL finals in 2011, losing 1-0 to Washington’s Kitsap Pumas.

Q. When will they play, how long is the season?
A. The PDL season is scheduled mostly during the time of colleges’ summer break. The regular season runs from late April to late July, with playoffs and the national championship extending into the beginning of August.
Q. Where will the Aztex play their home games?
A. That has not yet been finalized, though talks are ongoing and looking good for our first-choice venue.
Q. How much will tickets cost?
A. That hasn’t been finalized yet, either. However, there is a commitment already to keep prices very reasonable, in order to bring the game to as many Austin fans as possible.
Q. Will there be season ticket packages? What will they include?
A. Yes, there sure will be season tickets, which will provide discounted prices for all regular-season home games. Season ticket holders may also have receive a discounts on playoff or exhibition matches, but those details are still being worked out. Tickets for away games won’t be included, as those ticket prices are set by the home teams.
Q. Will the Aztex offer volunteer or internship opportunities?
A. Absolutely. More details will be available here on the website soon. For the time being, internship candidates and volunteers may contact the team by email, using the “info@” address on the home page.
UPDATE: There will be a meeting for volunteers interested in marketing efforts at the Lion & Rose Westgate, 10:15 – 11:00, Saturday, Jan. 7.
Q. When will tryouts be?
A. Tryout dates haven’t been set yet, we’ll announce those details here on the website as soon as we can.

  1. Hi Aztex!

Question: Will there likely be a season ticket package, and if so will it likely include any away games, playoff games (if applicable, fingers crossed), or other extra games like exhibition matches?

    • Djorn is a friend to many of us and we’d be proud to have him in Austin again, but he is currently CEO of NSC Minnesota Stars, where he just won the NASL Championship. Congrats, Djorn!

    • Palacios – Tryouts will be open to anyone who’s interested, and the we can’t completely anticipate the coach’s decisions. That said, we expect to draw heavily on the wealth of player talent in the central Texas area!
