The Austin Aztex today announced they had signed their first pro player for the 2009 Season. Miguel Gallardo, PDL Goalkeeper of the Year and Southern Conference All-Star, signed a two year contract with the Aztex. Miguel has been the starting ’keeper for the Aztex U23 team for the past season, conceding only eight goals and leading the League with nine shutouts.
Adrian Heath, Aztex Head Coach, said “We are delighted that Miguel has agreed to join us. He has been outstanding on the U 23 team this past season and I believe there is much more to come from him. Over the next few years we believe Miguel has the potential to turn into a top-class goalkeeper. We are very aware that it has been Miguel’s dream to become a professional player and we are delighted to give him the opportunity, we know that he will work hard to make the most of it. There were a number of clubs reported to be watching Miguel so we are pleased that he has chosen to sign for the Aztex.”
Miguel said “This is a dream for me. I thought my chance to be a professional had gone when I left Tigres, so the chance to play pro here in Austin is a dream come true. I intend to work very hard in pre-season to make the most of this opportunity and be a part of the starting eleven.”
