Biography: All-CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) goalkeeper Sean Kelley was signed for one year, with a club option for the next two in his rookie season.
Kelley spent the past four seasons terrorizing CAA offenses, starting all 77 games in his collegiate career and holding his opponents to less than one goal per game for his entire career. While stopping 332 shots, the Lexington, Ky., native earned a clean slate in 30 games.
As a senior, Kelley earned All-CAA honors for the second straight season and third time in his career after leading the conference in saves with a total of 82. He started all 18 matches in goal and recorded a 1.00 goals against average with five shutouts. A year prior, Kelley held opponents scoreless for a total of 270 minutes two different times during the season and blanked teams in six of the final nine matches, including two CAA Championship matches and the opening round NCAA Championship match.
The goalkeeper’s two years as an underclassman were arguably his best. As a sophomore, he compiled 70 saves and four shutouts. As a freshman, he was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, All-CAA Second Team, 2006 College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team and National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Atlantic Region Third Team honors.
In March, Kelley tried out for FC Dallas, where he caught the Aztex attention.
“Sean is a goalkeeper with a big future ahead of him,” Head Coach Adrian Heath said. “We saw him at FC Dallas and as soon as we knew we might have an opportunity to get him, we didn’t hesitate. We’re pleased we have a goalkeeper with such great potential.” |
