The Aztex U23s play their season’s -- and their franchise’s -- first home game this Saturday, May 10 at Round Rock High School’s Dragon Stadium in Round Rock, TX. The Aztex U23s (0-0-1) take on the Houston Leones (1-0-0) at 7:30 PM.
The Aztex opened the season on May 3, but found themselves away at the El Paso Patriots. The Patriots are a well established franchise, entering their 18th season of competition. The Aztex and Patriots played to a 0-0 draw which had plenty of positives for Coaches Suhnholz and Murphy. (Video of this game is available from the Patriots video archive.) There are several strong players who will be joining the roster in the coming weeks as their college semesters come to a close, so the team will continue to gain in strength.

The Houston Leones join the Aztex as a new expansion team in the PDL. They are based in rapidly-growing Ft. Bend County and have built a soccer-specific facility in Richmond called The Soccer World Center. They played their debut game at home on May 3 as well, defeating the New Orleans Shell Shockers, 3-0. All three goals were scored in the 2nd half by different players, but one player, midfielder Eric Dominguez, was credited with assisting on all goals. In terms of shots on goal, the Leones turned in a dominating performance against the Shell Shockers, overwhelming them 25-3. Clearly, the Leones are going to be formidable competitors for the Aztex in the Mid South Division of the PDL’s Southern Conference.
Tickets are available at the stadium: $8 for adults, $5 for children. Discounted season tickets are also still available. See the stadium page for directions to Dragon Stadium and parking information.
The Aztex’s live music guest for this inaugural home game is the Frank Gomez Band. Come hear Big Frank’s own unique blend of R&B, blues, classic oldies and Tex-Mex music.
The Aztex are proud to showcase the Center For Child Protection as this game’s featured non-profit organization. Please support the Center for Child Protection in their vital work.
Come out to the game, and be a part of Austin soccer history!
