The undefeated Austin Aztex U23s (3-0-1) host the New Orleans Shell Shockers (2-1-1) in their 3rd home game and 5th game of the season on Sunday, May 25 at 2:30 PM.
This will be the second game of the weekend for both teams: the Aztex had a 1-0 victory over the Laredo Heat Friday night, and New Orleans beat the DFW Tornados 2-1 that night as well.
The Shell Shockers joined the league in 2003 and, not unlike the early success enjoyed by the Aztex, they were the sensations of the league. They went 16-2 that year, before falling in the final playoff game for the Southern Conference title. Coach Farrell was named Coach of the Year for the entire league. Their 2005 season was affected, of course, by the Hurricane Katrina disaster, and, like the rest of the New Orleans area, they are returning to their pre-storm form. In their recent game against DFW, they were led by midfielders Ben Callon and Brandon Chagnard (the latter a native of New Orleans), who both scored.
Don’t forget: the game starts at 2:30 PM. Some early schedules showed a 1:30 PM start time, but the time was changed.
The Aztex’s live music guest once again is the Frank Gomez Band. Come out before the game to hear Big Frank’s unique blend of R&B, blues, classic oldies and Tex-Mex music.
The Aztex are proud to showcase the SIMS Foundation as this game’s featured non-profit organization. Please support the SIMS Foundation in their mission to provide assistance for Austin musicians, and their loved ones, with individualized mental health and addiction recovery services.
